The Challenge
AIMS was undergoing a major IT transformation to improve scalability and reduce the high costs associated with its private cloud infrastructure. With a mix of on-premises and cloud services becoming increasingly expensive, IMS decided to migrate to AWS to better manage these costs and scale their operations.
However, IMS's internal team lacked the necessary experience for migrating and managing workloads on AWS. They needed a partner to assist with both the migration and the upskilling of their team to independently manage the new infrastructure. Specifically, IMS needed oversight and expert guidance to ensure a successful migration while training their internal staff through a hands-on approach.
The Solution
To support IMS in its migration, an AWS-certified architect was brought on board to guide the team through the migration. Rather than taking over the migration, the architect and engineer worked alongside IMS’s internal staff in a paired programming model, teaching them best practices and AWS methodologies while actively migrating the workloads.
This hands-on, 6-month engagement was designed with learning in mind, ensuring IMS's internal team could independently manage AWS infrastructure once the migration was complete.
Regular weekly meetings and email syncs allowed for real- time support, troubleshooting, and sharing of best practices.
This approach enabled IMS to build up their internal knowledge base, which they were eager to expand for future scalability and innovation. The work began in March 2024 and is projected to conclude in December 2024.
How We Did It
The collaboration began when IMS's Director of Operations, Craig Rigano, reached out to ReluTech. IMS needed an affordable solution that could also empower their internal team with AWS skills. ReluTech offered an integrated approach that focused on education, mentorship, and affordability, standing out from competitors that offered fully managed services.
ReluTech worked closely with IMS’s key decision-makers and provided a consultant who could mentor their team through the migration. This hands-on support and the billing flexibility offered through AWS Marketplace were key factors in IMS's decision to choose ReluTech as their partner.
With the project expected to conclude by the end of 2024, IMS is on track to complete the migration while ensuring their internal team gains sufficient AWS experience for future projects.
